13 signs of spiritual imbalance and 5 practices to stay well

What is spiritual work?

Before I can teach you some ways to stay spiritually well, I have to first clarify the definition of spiritual work.

The spiritual realm impacts the earthly realm, and vice versa.

Spiritual work can be done in multiple realms, but for the sake of ease for this definition, spiritual work consists of practices, rituals and ceremonies performed either by a priest/priestess or by a practitioner.

Dong spiritual work brings about positive change and progress in various domains of your life.

It brings you closer to your soul, which is the elevated part of your being.

It also brings you in contact with all of creation and the creative force itself – the magic behind all things.

In this way, it is divine work. The hands of the practitioner become one with the great creative force of the universe, what some might call God.

Doing the work, a practitioner calls upon the great energies of nature, often categorized as earth, wind, air, fire and ether or spirit.

My tradition, in particular, connects with elevated spirits and guides to help assist the practices at hand.

What is spiritual imbalance?

In the past, achieving spiritual progress happened as a natural outcome of being alive.

However, as society became increasingly disconnected from nature, particularly around the time of the industrial revolution, spiritual life is less embedded in the day-to-day reality of many people.

Obviously, that’s a generalization and isn’t true for everyone. Many people and cultures still live embedded in the rhythms of nature. But many more live lives of disconnection, holed up in buildings meant to protect them, and interacting with technology in huge doses.

As a result of disconnection from spiritual work, many people face the symptoms of spiritual dysfunction.

13 common signs of spiritual imbalance

Take note of these spiritual imbalances to see if any apply to you:

  1. Isolation (from self, others, or both).

  2. Needing to perform or put on a mask to be accepted.

  3. Depression.

  4. Cyclical behavior of any kind including addiction, codependency or abuse.

  5. Lack of life purpose.

  6. Extreme, patterned ways of being that seem impossible to change. Another example is the same scenarios showing up in your life over and over again.

  7. Living in filthy environments while craving order and cleanliness.

  8. The feeling like you are barely keeping it together and might crack at any moment (paradoxically, this is also a good sign that you are on the spiritual path or about to embark on it.)

  9. A strong desire for things to be different in your life.

  10. Spiritual sightings or occurrences, both “good” and “bad,” including seeing ghosts or entities, having dreams or nightmares of a spiritual nature (such as night terrors or visitations from angels or past loved ones).

  11. Hearing voices, knowing something is going to happen or any other activation of your spiritual capacities that feels out of control.

  12. PTSD.

  13. A lack of creativity, sex drive, and/or vitality.

If you are facing any of the above, it’s a good idea to consult a spiritual worker for a consultation.

How can a lay person, or someone just starting out in their spiritual journey support themselves on their spiritual path?

Luckily, spiritual teachings remain intact and many people gravitate towards them from an intuitive place of knowing that what ails them is a spiritual matter.

A lot of behind-the-scenes work goes into supporting a spiritual client. As spiritual workers, we can see the hidden causes of spiritual imbalance in your life. Oftentimes, we do work on you to help you resolve issues that you wouldn’t be able to do on your own.

However, there are some things people can do to support themselves on the spiritual journey.

Here are five, ongoing practices you can use to stay spiritually well:

  1. Cleanse and purify regularly. Not sure how, ask me!

  2. Be. This amazingly simple practice is extremely powerful. A lot of spiritual problems resolve by you simply being you. (This is often easier said than done.) This also includes taking time and space to notice what’s really going on for you.

  3. Notice patterns and imbalances in your life. Take stock of recurring themes.

  4. Cut negativity out of your life. While dealing with your own spiritual problems, why bring someone else’s BS into the mix?

  5. Follow your dreams and longings, they will guide you in the direction of your highest self.

When in doubt, get help from a spiritual worker. If you’re not sure how to gauge where you're at spiritually, book a consultation so I can help you.
